Hackney council tried to sell on a load of their newly arrived African tennants ... and Council Point council agreed to take them for a nice sum.... residents found out and it kicked off... was talk of roadblocks and all sorts... Castle Point pulled out and they ended up in Westcliff (just off Hamlet Ct Road... which is now known as Harlem Court Road)... so Southend council took the backhander and the problem... my old man (Canvey) is normally on the ball with these things... popped down their last week and he never mentioned it...

The reason I know is because a couple of freinds of mine who live on Canvey said some have moved in down their road. So it is still happening.

Benfleet is decent. Just like most towns this way you have your good and bad parts.
As mentioned below if you enjoy a beer the three pubs near benfleet station are good fun.
